Consilium

Consilium is the master planner for the Hospice of Davidson County Community Garden.  This blog is a nexus of information on the project and is a tool that helps share the design progression.  Construction by Consilium started in September 2016.  Click on the tabs above to learn more about this healing garden, its design and the art that will be part of the garden architecture.

Chip Holton.  Chip is the artist-in-residence for Quaintance-Weaver Hotels in Greensboro, NC.  Over 800 works of art created by Chip appear throughout the Proximity and O.Henry Hotels.  A native of Lexington, he was taught to draw by his mother, a trained artist.  He received an undergraduate degree in philosophy at N.C. State University as well as a Masters of Fine Arts degree from UNCG.  Following grad school, he studied in Italy with Jim Moon.  Chip's work exhibited in the museums, libraries, hotels, restaurants, and homes includes sketches, landscapes, watercolors, theater set design, private and corporate portraits, bronze sculpture, and murals.  In 1989 Chip met Dennis Quaintance.  This began Chip's design consulting and the production of hundreds of works for the Proximity and O.Henry.  One aspect of Chip's creativity is painting for events at the hotels and other venues, such as fund-raisers and entertainment events. Chip's canvas painting ranges from fine art oils to contemporary acrylics.

Dan Smith.  Dan is planner, designer, and engineering consultant.  A native of Fayetteville, he learned to draw, paint, and build by self-study and formal lessons.  His interest in architecture led to a Bachelor of Architecture degree from N.C. State University.  His architecture and computer-aided design education led to a design and engineering career with the Rouse Company, the United States Air Force, U.S. corporations, and since 1989 independent consulting with government and large, medium, and small corporations.  Dan has been engaged in historic renovations in Massachusetts and more recently with the Lexington Redevelopment Commission.  Since moving to Lexington in 2008, Dan has been involved in a number of youth programs, continued his Internet-based consulting, and has been redeveloping his home and yard located in Lexington's Historic Park Place District.  His home was on the Davidson County Master Gardeners' Tour in May 2014.
